[North] Esk at Springfield, toward the South, extending to Montrose farm, more than one half of it is from 6 to 7 feet below the level of the adjoining fields, and so narrow that only one cart can pass at a time, there is a tradition of its being upwards of 1600 years old, & is supposed to be a part of a Roman road between two Roman Camps. |
