012 | In the centre of the village of Roslin & nearly opposite the Star Hotel, the pedestal of the ancient Market cross still remains. It is a square stone (raised a little above the general surface) the cavity in which the pillar stood is very visible. The pedestal is on a circular mound of earth. Roslin was erected into a burgh of barony by James the 2nd in 1456 with the privilege of holding a weekly market and yearly fair. These markets have been long since discontinu [discontinued] |

On the other two sides (of the Tombstone) are inscribed the armorial bearings of the family - This monument is erected at the south entrance gate to "Dryden" - on the Dryden Estate, which Estate was the property of the Lockhart family until recently when it was sold by that family
