010 About 5/8 mile E. by N. from West Calder | Formerly called Herdman's Shield; A commodious mansion, with garden and farm steading adjoining, pleasantly situated in a well wooded park, about half a mile east of the village of West Calder. It is approached on the south and east sides by a good carriage drive, and at the eastern gate is a porter's lodge. It was formerly the property of Lord Hermand, one of the judges of the Scottish Bench, and subsequently became the property of the late Lord Dundrennan, in whose family it remains.
