005 | This name applies to a ruin, situated S. of the village of Corstorphine wh[ich] was greatly demolished about 50 ye[ars] ago. It was the residence of the Forresters a name of great celebrity in Sco[ttish] History and occupied by one of the Family as late as 1698. In former times this Cas[tle] is said to have been surrounded [by] a ditch which was supplied by wa[ter] from two lochs situated one on each side of the castle as represented in Blair's Atlas of Lothian prepared in 1640. There is a Dove Cott or Pige[on]House about 7 chains N.E. [North East] of the castle said to be as ancient as [the] castle and at present is in go[od] preservation and used as a pigeo[n] House. |
