[Situation] On the East side of the City of Edinburgh A burgh of Barony which includes part of the parish of Canongate and part of that of St Cuthbert. It includes a district of an irregular shape extending from the North BacK of Canongate to Carnegie Street and extending from Holyroodhouse to Leith Wynd and includes the South Back of Canongate. part of the Pleasance St John's Hill &c. This barony is under the superiority of Edinburgh since the year 1630: and is governed by a baron bailie nominated by the Corporation of Edinburgh: and two resident bailies appointed by the inhabitants |
