[Situation] At East End of Physic Gardens This house was founded by Mary of Gueldres Queen of James II for the support and clothing of thirteen poor persons, It was situated at the north end of Leith Wynd, previous to it having been taken down, by the North British Railway Company, in 1845, It was one of the oldest buildings in Edinburgh. the inmates for the present being boarded and otherwise accommodated till Moray House be prepared for their reception in lue of their former Hospital, The revenues of the Institution Amonts to £2000 a year it is derived from lands in the Parishes of South Leith and St Cuthberts and from Money in bonds The inmates are reduced burgesses of Edinburgh, their Widows, Sons, and daughters. The right of presentation is vested in several public bodies, and in certain families in the Country, The average number of inmates is about 50 besides 100 out door pensioners who receive about £6 per annum The objects of charity must be less than 50 years of age & Single. |
