[Situation] On North Side of Regent Road An elegant Grecian building of the Doric order after the design of the temple of Theseus at Athens It Consists of a Centre two wings And two lodges extending in front to the length of 400 feet The entrance is by a raised portico supported by columns and a corridor with columns on each side. There is a large hall, library Museum, and apartments for the different classes. The play ground which is railed in, includes a space of two Acres. The teachers are a Rector and 4 classical Masters a teacher of a teacher of French, one of Arithmetic one of Mathematics, and a writing Master and assistants. There are also taught fencing & gymnastics. The Rector's fee is £1..5 the classical Masters' £1..1 p [per] Quarter. The other classes which are optional vary from 7/6 to 10/6 p [per] quarter, Matriculation 5/ p [per] Quarter This school was built in 1825-26 at an expence of £30,000. |
