In it are several breweries and malthouses but these of greatest note are the gas works, there are Also a few shops chiefly public houses, the houses are generally tolerably good and occupied by a respectable class of work people. During the whole length of this street its course forms a boundary line between the paris of Canongate and other parish. A considerable portion of the houses on the north side of this street are in the parish of South Leith, the remainder in the same side are in the Parish of Saint Cuthberts |
