050 | [Situation] At S.S.En. [South South Eastern] extremity of Lochmaben. A handsome Substantial building capable of Containing 1700 Sitters, was opened for worship in the year 1819, and Cost the heritors the sum of £3000 including a new wall round the churchyard. The Minister is the Rev Thomas Liddel who's Stipend varies from £300 to £360 per annum. The glebe is very small, consisting only of two acres. |

050 | [Situation] About 6 Chains W. [West] of Lochmaben Church. Supposed to be the site of a very ancient Castle close to the town, on a noble situation between the Castle and Kirk Lochs, surrounded by a deep moat and fosse, Tradition says stones of it were carried away to build another castle. It commands a pleasant prospect overt an extensive plain, and was originally the seat of Robert Bruce Lord of Annandale before that fasmily came to the crown of Scotland. It is said that Robert Bruce 1 , King of Scotland, was born in this Castle. See Page 3. |
