020 | Examining this, it appears to be old track of road Artificially made, & having a hard base with several small stones in the pavement of its surface, I inquired to know it there was any Tradition respecting it and was informed that it was an old Cadger, or Smuggling road, others said it was a roman road. It may the site of a Celtic Dike after the stones and earth being taken away. History states that the Celtic Dike from Stranraer passes through the uplands of Galloway to Afton heights down through Nithsdale on the South side of the River & on to Carlisle. |
