057 | [Situation] At Brydekirk Mains -- This is supposed to have been a Border Tower of the Carlyles - originally - that of the Corries, and afterwards the Pasleys occupied it - the ancestors of the present General Pasley of the Royal Engineers. There is nothing remaining of it at present but one of the walls, which is about 7 links thick - it forms the gable end of one of the offices attached to the farm house of Brydekirk Mains. There is a large oblong stone placed over the door of one of the above offices, which was removed from some of the buildings attached to the Tower - the Tower was occupied about 50 years ago - it bears the following inscription "KENEL FOR HWNDS AND HWNTING HORS" It is at present the property of Colonel Pasley Dirom of Mount Annan. |
