059 | This name is applied to where the old Millitary road crosses the water-shed between Banffshire & Aberdeenshire. Tradition says that a Blacksmith had commited some crimes in Invernesshire, and was banished from the County, His punishment was that his budget was put upon horseback, and ordered to travel till it fell off the horses back, which it did in crossing the pass of the Height. And it is said that he settled down at this place, and found employment in dressing slates. And hence the name Leac Gobhainn. The pass of the Heght is here crossed by the Military road leading to Strathdon Donean Tourist page 23. |
