007 ; 008 | The Mormond is the only hill of any note in Buchan. The Mhor-moan of the Gaelic is Said to be Synonymous with the Ormond of the Irish- Viz. the great moss. The Mormond rises eight hundred and ten feet above the level of the Sea, and is about twelve miles in Circumferance. A considerable part of it is covered with heath and peatbog. These however, are gradually diminishing. Cultivation has already mastered two-thirds of the Southern Slope of the hill, and is slowly Creeping up on the north.
