075 | An extensive Village, situated on the South side of the River Don, and within 2 miles of the City of Aberdeen. It contains an Established, (Quoad Sacra) and a Free Church, also a Chapel belonging to the Congregational Unionists. There are Schools, belonging to the different denominations which are well attended. There is a Post Office and Police Station. The principle Street of Village, commences at the East End and continues till it joins the parish of Newhills, going by the names of Wellington, Hadden, and Barron Streets. The inhabitants are chiefly employed at the Woodside & Grandholm Works, which are situated in the Vicinity, and the granite Quarries in the adjoining parish of Newhills: The Village is modern, and is built on portions of three Estates, called Tanfield, Cotton & Woodside. |
