043 ; 044 ; 052 ; 053 | A small parish in the county of Aberdeen surrounded by the parishes of Clatt, Tullynessie, Keig, and Premnay. The Gaudie flows though it from west to east. North of the Gaudie, the country consists of a series of small hills, in many places very steep, but all arable except on their summits. South of the Gaudie their is less arable land, the ground rising to the summit of a range of hills connecting with Benachie. Their is very little wood in the parish - The principal villages are Duncanstone and Bridge of Leslie, both small and containing no Inn - the latter is the Kirkton. A considerable number of antiquities - such as Cairns and tumuli, have existed in the parish but they have been mostly swept away when improving the land. A standing stone called the "Ringin' Stone" still stands in the west of the parish and a very fine specimen of a sculptured stone may be seen at the farm of Newbigging on the east of the parish. The only building of Antiquity is the Castle of Leslie. Note - There is no portion of this Parish detached, nor portion, or portions of any other parish enclosed within the boundary of this Parish. |
