Revd. [Reverend] J. Gillan Revd. [Reverend] H. Mc Connach R.O. Farquharson Esq. Mr. F. Minto New Statistical Account |
062 | The remains of a Druidical Temple, situated about a mile south-west of the village of Alford. The stones which formed the circle are now almost invisible above the surface of the ground, but it is easily dicernable by the large trees which have been planted to preserve its formation, and which make it a most conspicuous object in the locality. In the neighbourhood, it is known by the name of the "Auld Kirk," but never was the site of any Christian place of worship; that name being given to such objects by the people, [society], form their having been used as such by the Druids. |
| GALLOW HILL | Gallow Hill Gallow Hill Gallow Hill Gallow Hill Gallow Hill |
Revd [Reverend] J. Gillan Revd [Reverend] H. McConnach Mr. F. Minto R.O. Farquharson Esq. New Statistical Account |
062 | A small isolated hill planted chiefly with fir wood; and which appears never to have been cultivated. It is the opinion of the best and most competent Authorities in the locality that this hill was once a place of executions, but nothing further than the name applied to it leads them to that conclusion. Property of R. O. Farquharson Esq. Haughton House, Alford |

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
