GARTLY CASTLE (Site of) | Gartly Castle (In Ruins) | Jame Harvey Backburn William Merson Millhill Alexander Mitchell Faichhill |
034 | The Site of the old Castle of Gartly, the date of its erection cannot be obtained, neither can anything authentic be obtained as to when it was demolished. It was situated on a small mount, and appears to have been surrounded with a deep ditch. It appears to have been a square tower; one end of it was standing up to a very recent date * but nothing remains now to mark the site, except a heap of stones and earth; there seems nothing so singular in its structure, as to merit particular attention. It originally belonged to the Gordons, (Berclays) it was afterwards inhabited by the Berclays (Gordons) in the Year 1489. |

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
