028 | a well known huge boulder of speckled Spa and quartz and Sometimes known by the name 'Whitestane' It is said to have been shifted a little and sunk into the ground some years ago whilst digging for a pump, close to it. It is now proposed by the villagers to be raised up. The Stone formerly, it is said. formed a boundary point Between Buchan and the Gairoch and extended southwestward over the village houses and about a chain south of the extreme north angle of the present village buildings - and was of a Considerable importance in the place, such as that those residing on the one side of the boundary could not claim the indulgence of procuring peats &c from the opposite district &c. |
