| ELLON CASTLE | Castle of Ellon Castle of Ellon Castle of Ellon |
Alexander Gordon. Esq. Proprietor. Mr. Jamieson. Factor. Mr. John Rae. Ellon. |
038 | This is an elegant building, situated on the north side of the Ythan and near the village, and commands an extensive view of the district in which it is situated; it is the residence of the proprietor Alexander Gordon Esq. and is of modern erection. The author of the History of Buchan, says, the present Castle of Ellon is a noble substitute for the dull, heavy, and uninteresting mass of masonry that preceded it; and, with its exquisite grounds and garden terraces - one of which, of ample breadth, beautifully laid out in parterres and flowerbeds, and said to be one of the finest in the Kingdom - forms one of the most delightful residences in Buchan. |

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
