045 | "The Stone at Daviot lies embedded in the ground on the roadside nearly opposite to the farmhouse of Newton of Mounie, The stone has now the appearance of being earthfast, but more probably was orginally erect" Sculptured Stones of Scotland Vol [Volume] 1 page 4 Notices of plates. The above mentioned stone was removed to Mounie Castle during the Summer of 1866. and lies in one of the ground floor rooms, in its former position the carving on it was in much danger of being obliterated by passing Carts &c. The stone is about 32 inches in height. but was broken in two while being conveyed from Newton to Mounie Castle. |
