| CASTLE OF BALQUHAIN (Ruins) | Castle of Balquhain (Ruins) | Colonel Knight Erskine Colonel Charles Leslie Henry Lumsden Esq. |
045 | " About half a mile to the southeast of the church is to be seen the old ruinous castle of Balquhain, the ancient seat of the Leslies of Balquhain. In it Queen Mary spent a day in her journey to the north, which terminated in the battle of Corrichie. This castle is of so great antiquity that there is no tradition of its erection, but it is said to have been burnt to the ground by the Duke of Cumberland in the year 1746. Of the venerable castle, the remains of the court, and the square tower or keep is all that now remains. The walls are six feet thick and the cement almost as hard as the stone. From it there is one of the finest echoes in Scotland." Statistical Account of Aberdeenshire |

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
