| Supposed Site of ROMAN ROAD [Pitcaple Castle] | (Supposed) Roman Road | Mr James Taylor. Gamekeeper Pitcaple Castle. | 045 ; 054 | The track of an old road through the grounds of Pitcaple Castle, southwards, can easily be traced, and can be followed through the woods either intact or in detached pieces as far as Gallow Hill where all trace of it is lost. Wherever arable fields intervene the track is totally obliterated and whether it ever has been a Roman Road is conjectural, though it does run northward in direction of the site of the Roman Post. An old inhabiant of Pitcaple, from boyhood a servant to the previous proprietors of the castle, was known to have stated that the northern portion of the two branches of road shown on the plan was a portion of the Roman Road. Nothing more can be gleaned respecting it. |

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
