075 | A very elegant building erected in 1819, was designed by the late Archibald Simpson Esq. Architect, and has been continually receiving large additions even to the present time under the direction of William Ramage Esqr. architect. Everything characteristic of a place of confinement has been judiciously avoided, and the whole of the interior has been arranged with anxious regard to the proper classification and comfort of the patients. The airing grounds are extensive, and gardening work is furnished to all patients who are capable of such healthful exercise. This institution, is properly a branch of the Infirmary, and is under the direction of the same managers, but the funds are kept separate and distinct. The patients are furnished with various means of indoor diversion, such as billiards, bagatelle, cards, draughts. and musical instruments; besides having such outdoor amusements as walks cricket, quiots, bowls and from time to time, visits and excursions. They are also amply provided with books, newspapers, and literary and illustrated periodicals, and have the daily attendance of an excellent and painstaking chaplain. The present number of patients in this institution is 407. Resident Physician and superintendent. Robert Jamieson M. D. [Doctor of Medicine] |

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
