075 | A splendid building the property of a print-stock Company, designed by the late A Simpson Esq Architect and opened on the 29th April 1842. This is one of the Noblest erections of the kind in the Kingdom. It is 315 feet long by 106 feet broad height 45 feet, two ranges of pillars divide it into three unequal alleys, in the Centre there is accommodation for 200 dealers in dairy produce, with about 300 Yards of Side benches for Garden produce; Under the Galleries there are about 50 butchers shops. In the west end there is a beautiful fountain of polished red Granite. The Galleries, to which there is access by stairs in each side of the entrance at the east end, are well supplied with shops and stalls for the sale of fancy goods, hardware, drapery etc, at the West end there is stair leading to a basement floor on which there are about 70 shops & 250 Yards of Benches, for the sale of Provisions. Game, Fish etc, - to the basement floor there are entrances from Green, Hadden Street and East Green, The main entrance is from Market Street. |
