075 | A large plain building on the west side of Lodge Walk erected between the Years 1828 and 1831. It is of a rectangular form 129 feet in length and 98 feet in breadth, enclosing a Court, divided by high walls into six airing Yards and having a round house or turnkey lodge on the Centre, the ground foor is formed into a sort of arcade in which the prisoners can air themselves in wet weather, the cells are on the first and second stories and are heated by pipes, on the south side is the Governors apartments, the building is fireproof. At the north side of the building on the ground foor there is a very strong and dark Cell for confining Criminals guilty of prison misdemeanors, and betwixt it and the street called Lodge walk is the burial ground of the prison. |
