075 | A splendid building in the Gothic Style of Architecture the foundation stone of which was laid in the Year 1837. by his Grace the Duke of Richmond Chancellor of the University. It was Completed in 1841 at a cost of £21,420. of this sum Government granted £15,000, the balance was raised by public subscription. This noble institution was originally founded and endowed by George Earl Marischal of Scotland by Charter of 2nd April 1593. It is erected on the site of a Monastery belonging to the Grey Friars. There are thirteen professorships, Nine Lectureships and one hundred and six Bursaries whos annual value is about £1100. It is united to Kings College Old Aberdeen and is only used for the Study of Medicine, Botany and Materia Medica. |
