Edinburgh 14th June 1694
In Presence off The Earle of Linlithgow Compaired Mathew Frew SubCollector of the Hearth money Within the Bailzarie of Kunningham who being Sworne and examined Declaired That the forsaid List of Hearths Extending to five Thousand Fyve Hundered and one hearths, which are payed, And Threttie which are unpayed, Is ane true and Just List, off all the Hearths of the forsaid parochens to the best of his Knowledge (Excepting the Hearths of poor) And that he hes used his utmost endeavers Conform to the proclamationes off Councell, Annent the ingathereing of the Hearth money To Come to the knowledge of all the Hearths of the sds [saids] parochens, And that he hes not willingly or wittingly concealed any, But Given up the Samen as said is And this is the truth As he shall answer to God.

This volume contains lists of householders liable for the hearth tax in 1694 in the division of Ayrshire known as Cunninghame. There are lists for the parishes of Largs, Kilbryde, Kilmarnock and Fenwick, Newmilns and Loudoun, Kilbirnie, Stewarton, Irvine, Dreghorn, Kilmaurs, Ardrossan, Beith, Stevenston and Kilwinning.
Scottish Exchequer (Tax Records)
The Scottish Exchequer, and subsequently the Court of Exchequer, were concerned with the accounting of collected taxes in Scotland. These taxes include the Carriage tax (1785-1798), Cart tax (1785-1798), Clock and watch tax (1797-1798), Dog tax (1797-1798), Farm horse tax (1797-1798), Servant tax (1777-1798), Hearth tax (1691-1695), Horse tax (1785-1798), Inhabited house tax (1778-1798), Land tax (1645-1831), Poll tax (1694-1698), Shop tax (1785-1789), Window tax (1748-1798). Following the Consolidating Acts (38 Geo. III cap. 40 and 41), the duties on windows, inhabited houses, male servants, carts, carriages and dogs were incorporated in Consolidated Schedules of Assessed Taxes (1798-1799).
