Transcriber's notes
The meil (spelling varies) was a Scandinavian measure of weight used in Orkney. The lispund was likewise a measure of weight, used around the Baltic, and in Orkney mainly for butter and oil. The setting (another Scandinavian term) was the same as the lispund, but used mainly for dry goods. The setting was one sixth of the meil. The mark was one twentyfourth of the setting. The lispund was one twelfth of a barrel.
