Renton Church of Scotland kirk session, Seat rents (1887-1897), CH2/733/23

Kirk sessions are local church courts, the lowest church court in the presbyterian system of church government. Their role is to lead and govern congregations. The Church of Scotland became a presbyterian church during the Reformation in Scotland. The churches which broke away from the Church of Scotland after 1733 were also presbyterian. In the course of business, kirk sessions produce records documenting their meetings, decisions and transactions, which are normally hand-written.

Renton Church of Scotland kirk session

A Church of Scotland quoad sacra parish. It sat within the presbytery of Dumbarton and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr. The parish of Renton was disjoined form Cardross in 1870 and erected as a separate parish, quoad sacra.
