Castleton kirk session, Minutes (1749-1757; 1823-1842), Register of marriages (1855-1857), CH2/64/3
Kirk sessions are local church courts, the lowest courts in the Church of Scotland and other presbyterian churches. The records of kirk session meetings, decisions and transactions are normally hand-written.
Castleton kirk session
A church court that sat within the presbytery of Langholm and the synod of Dumfries. The pre-Reformation church belonged to the priory of Canonbie. In 1604 the neighbouring churches of Ettleton, Wheelkirk and Belkirk were united with Castleton into one charge.
