Cardross Church of Scotland kirk session, Accounts (1742-1800), CH2/54/3
Kirk sessions are local church courts, the lowest church court in the presbyterian system of church government. Their role is to lead and govern congregations. The Church of Scotland became a presbyterian church during the Reformation in Scotland. The churches which broke away from the Church of Scotland after 1733 were also presbyterian. In the course of business, kirk sessions produce records documenting their meetings, decisions and transactions, which are normally hand-written.

A church court that sat in the presbytery of Dumbarton and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr.
