This particular entry relates to one of Scotland's most renowned military figures, David Leslie. In October 1646, he was one of the senior commanders of a Scottish army, which had been fighting in England, alongside English parliamentarians, against Charles I, who was king of the separate kingdoms of Scotland and England. The General Assembly is seen here deciding which minister (out of three candidates listed by Leslie) would be sent to act as his chaplain.
The hand here has a high proportion of secretary hand letters, but most are well formed and the clerk's generous spacing and use of commas as punctuation makes it fairly straightforward to read. Some of the capital letters and a couple of abbreviated words might slow you down.
