Westruther kirk session

A church court that sat within the presbytery of Earlston and the synod of Merse and Teviotdale. Anciently, Westruther formed a part of the parish of Hume and following the reformation sat within the parish of Gordon in 1617. Westruther, however, was disjoined, along with Spottiswood, in 1647, and was united with the parish of Bassendean. In 1649, following the annexation from Gordon, a church was built at the village of Westruther and the congregation of the newly erected parish of Westruther was transferred here from the old chapel of Bassendean.
