Temple kirk session

A church court that sat within the presbytery of Dalkeith and within the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale. The parish of Temple was originally known as Balantroda but renamed when David I granted the lands to the Knights Templar. Between the time of the dissolution of the Knights Templar and the reformation the church belonged to the Preceptory of St John at Torphichen and was later established as a collegiate church of Corstorphine. This arrangement was however dissolved in 1634 and the dissolution was ratified by Parliament in 1646.
