SCOTTISH CABINET : 3RD ADMINISTRATION : CABINET SECRETARY FOR EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING

This position was originally created in 1999 as the Minister for Children and Education, being renamed Minister for Education, Europe and External Affairs in 2000, and Minister for Education and Young People in 2001. The post was renamed Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning in 2007. The Minister had responsibility for issues relating to children, young people, and education. The 3rd Administration refers to the Scottish National Party (SNP) minority Scottish Government, which was elected at the third Scottish Parliament election on 3 May 2007. The Scottish Executive was renamed the Scottish Government in 2007.
