Newton kirk session
A church court that sat within the presbytery of Dalkeith and the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale. Prior to the reformation, the church of Newton was dedicated to St Mary and belonged to the Abbey of Dunfermline. In 1584 the ancient parishes of Woomet and Newton were united under the name of Newton. Ministry is recorded from 1586.
