Marnoch kirk session

A church court that sat within the presbytery of Turriff, later of Strathbogie, later of Strathbogie and Fordyce, later of Buchan, and the synod of Moray. The church of Marnoch, which was known of old as Aberchirder, was dedicated to St Marnan who is said to have founded the original church and used it as a base for his missionary work during the seventh century. For a time prior to the Reformation, the church belonged to the Abbey of Arbroath and ministry is recorded from 1567. Part of the parish was removed in 1869 to form part of the quoad sacra parish of Ord.
