JEDBURGH PRESBYTERY
A higher court of the Church of Scotland. It the Synod of Merse and Teviotdale, originally comprised the following parishes: Ancrum and Langnewton, Bedrule, Cavers, Crailing and Nisbet, Eckford, Edgerston, Hawick, Hopekirk, Hownam, Abbotrule, Jedburgh, Hassendean, Oxenham, Southdean, Teviothead and Wilton. During the 20th century the Presbyteries of Jedburgh and Kelso were united together. At some point between 1581 and 1609 it ceded several parishes to the presbytery of Kelso and in 1743 it ceded the parish of Castleton to the presbytery of Langholm.
