Ecclefechan Associate, United Presbyterian kirk session

A secession church court. This burgher congregation had its beginnings in 1748, though no minister was appointed until 1761 and there was no church building until 1766. In 1805 the offshoot burgher congregation of Annan, six miles to the south, was formally disjoined from the charge. Ecclefechan became in due course a United Presbyterian charge and then United Free in 1900, when it changed its name to Ecclefechan (West), while the former Free Church charge became Ecclefechan (East). Both charges united as Ecclefechan in 1915 and joined the Church of Scotland in 1929. This charge united with Hoddam in 1956, and the united charge was linked with Brydekirk in 1972
