Allanton Free, United Free, Church of Scotland kirk session

A secession church court. It began as Allanton Free Church in 1843, founded by the minister of Abbey St Bathans. A church was built in 1844 at some distance from the village, no nearer site being obtainable (and, strictly speaking, in the civil parish of Edrom). The congregation was at first drawn from several surrounding parishes, some of which later acquired their own Free Church charges. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge united with Edrom as Edrom-Allanton in 1947.
