John Moir, merchant in Dundee

John Moir was a Dundee merchant and cloth manufacturer active in the early nineteenth century. He traded in the UK and internationally in many goods, but particularly flax and linen cloth of various kinds.  He was one of a number of similar business owners who were instrumental in establishing Dundee as Scotland’s main flax importing and linen producing centre. He had a house in the Cowgate, Dundee.
