A parish partly in the county of Peebles and partly in the county of Lanark. It was a quoad omnia parish (a parish for civil and religious purposes). In 1891 the Boundary Commissioners placed the Peebles part of the civil parish in Broughton parish and left the reminder of the parish entirely in the county of Lanark.
