Campbeltown (First or Highland Charge) kirk session
A church court that sat within the presbytery of Kintyre and the synod of Argyll. In 1638 a chapel had been built in the parish of Kilchiaran for English-speaking refugees from the western Lowlands. In 1757 this charge was merged within the parish of Campbeltown, which thereafter sustained two collegiate charges under the one kirk session. They were known as the 1st or Highland charge and the 2nd or Lowland charge.
