Cairnie kirk session

A church court that sat within the presbytery of Strathbogie and the synod of Moray. It was originally known as Botarie and during the years 1615 and 1618, a part of the parish of Drumdelgie and the whole of the parish of Ruthven was added to Botarie to form the united session of Botarie and Ruthven. The charge continued under this name until 1710 when the name Cairnie, or Cairney, was adopted.
