Shiels Associate, United Presbyterian, United Free kirk session
A secession church court. An Antiburgher congregation began worshipping in its own building in Shiels in 1775, but the first minister was not called until 1785. The congregation suffered division, both after the split of the Antiburghers between New and Auld Lichts in 1806, and again after the formation of the United Secession Church in 1820. However, it survived to become first a United Presbyterian congregation and then United Free in 1900. In 1905 it united with Belhelvie United Free congregation, and in 1929 the united congregation became Belhelvie South Church of Scotland.
