Bathgate Associate kirk session
A secession church court. In 1763 provision was made for the minister of Torphichen Burgher church to preach on alternate Sundays at Bathgate, where ground had been acquired to build a meeting house. In 1765 Bathgate was constituted a congregation in its own right and called its own minister in 1766. In 1800 the congregation split between New and Auld Lichts, which resulted eventually in the Auld Lichts moving to a new building in 1828. When the New Licht congregation dissolved shortly afterwards the remaining two Associate Session congregations in Bathgate united. In 1839 the congregation split between those who were in favour of union with the Church of Scotland and those who wished to continue in the United Associate Church. The majority joined the local Church of Scotland congregation, while the minority continued in the United Associate Church until it was dissolved in 1856.
