In this poser, part of a rental roll in the minutes of the barony court of Corstorphine in 1692 (National Records of Scotland, RH11/17/1, page 5), we asked you to identify the five tenants whose names had been scored out.
Answer:
The five names crossed out appear to be: Jean Alexander, Thomas Rossie, James Steinsone, George Muir elder and William Young. Of these ‘George Muir’ is the most doubtful reading (the capital M is clear and there appears to be a tittle above the second letter, making it almost certainly u, then a letter with a dot above it then one more completely obliterated letter).
