Our records from ScotlandsPlaces.gov.uk will move to Scotland’s People this year. These include Ordnance Survey name books, a wide selection of 17th and 18th century tax rolls, and some maps and plans.

This move is happening because the ScotlandsPlaces website run by Historic Environment Scotland will close on 24 June.

Records will be transferred on a phased basis. The OS name books and tax rolls will be available from 25 June.

Images of maps and plans from the National Records of Scotland collection, currently available on ScotlandsPlaces, will be added to Scotland’s People later in the year.

For the first time on Scotland’s People, images of some original records will be available to view alongside a transcript of the text.

Records can be searched and viewed free of charge. There will be a small charge to save copies. Additionally, we have created a new name index of male and female servant tax rolls, for which there will be a small charge to view records.

If you don’t have one already, you can create a Scotland’s People account free of charge to prepare for the move.
