Scotland's People uses a credit system. You can use credits to:
- access paid records
- save copies of free-to-view records
- print copies of records in the Scotland's People Centre
1 credit is worth 25p. You can buy credits in different bundles.
Cost of accessing records
Most of the records on Scotland's People are pay to access. The majority of records cost between 6 and 10 credits, with a few costing less and some larger records costing more.
2 credit (50p) records

- downloads of free-to-view Virtual Volumes records
6 credit (£1.50) records
- statutory registers of births, marriages and deaths
- census returns
- church register entries
- prison register entries
- lightkeepers' register entries
- Scottish Women's Land Army entries
