Berneray (Sound of Harris)

An island in the Outer Hebrides, in the parish of Harris and the county of Inverness. It is now joined to North Uist by a causeway. It was sometimes known as Bernera. There are other islands called Berneray and Bernera: see under Berneray (Bishops Isles), Berneray (Sound of Harris) and Great Bernera and Little Bernera.

Lewis and Harris

A group of islands in the Outer Hebrides. The main island of Lewis consists of Lewis on the north and Harris on the south. The island Lewis contained the parishes of Barvas, Lochs, Stornoway and Uig, all in the county of Ross and Cromarty, and the burgh of Stornoway. The south part of the island, Harris, was a parish in the county of Inverness. Lewis is sometimes known as Lews.

Pabbay (Harris)

An island in the Outer Hebrides, between Harris and Uist, in the parish of Harris and the county of Inverness. Not to be confused with Pabay Mor, Pabay (Skye) or Pabbay (Bishops Isles).

Scalpay (Harris)

An island in the Outer Hebrides, in the parish of Harris and the county of Inverness. It was sometimes known as Scalpa. Not to be confused with another island of the same name: Scalpay (Skye).
